Engage Science: Communicating Complex Scientific Research



Last quarter, I was lucky enough to take a class through the Engage Science program at the University of Washington. Engage is an organization that helps students communicate their research to the public in an effective way, to help address the communication gap between scientists and the public.

As one of our assignments, we each wrote a blog post about a topic of our choosing. I chose to write about a talk I heard at the national conference for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) on how to communicate science to people with differing worldviews. The end-goal of the class was to talk about our own research in an engaging way. To finish off the course, we each had to give a lecture at Seattle Town Hall about our research.
